Analysis of healthcare service practices in a border region: The role of the community in the health-disease process
Maria da Soledade Fernandes Souza
ABSTRACT
Public health plays a crucial role in promoting the well-being of communities and preventing diseases on a large scale. This approach to health focuses on the health of the entire population, as opposed to individual care. It is based on the idea that a community’s health conditions are influenced by social, economic, environmental, and cultural factors. In this context, a central problem guides this research: How are healthcare practices shaped by community dynamics in a border region? The importance of public health lies in its ability to address health issues on a large scale. It involves the analysis of epidemiological data to identify trends, the creation of public health policies, the promotion of prevention practices, and educating the population about healthy habits. Additionally, public health plays a fundamental role in responding to disease outbreaks and managing public health crises. The overall objective of this research is to analyze and understand healthcare practices in a border region, with an emphasis on interactions and collaborations among different community actors, healthcare professionals, and healthcare systems. A literature review methodology was used, concluding that public health is also essential for reducing health disparities among different societal groups. It focuses on ensuring equal access to healthcare services for all and addressing the underlying causes of health inequalities.
