Cross-sectional approach to gel alcohol production used to combat coronavirus: A pedagogical proposal in Chemistry Teaching

Abstract

The present study aimed to discuss the cross-sectional approach to the production of gel alcohol in the classroom in order to develop critical and constructive thinking in students whose health is at stake in the face of the performance of the covid-19 virus. For this purpose, the bibliographic method was used for theoretical basis and the interview and fieldwork technique for datar collection at the study site. The research took place at Escola Secundária do Búzi and had a sample of 20 students from the 12th grade. From the qualitative and quantitative analysis, it was possible to conclude that all the distinguished activities, whatever the methodology and which dispenses the student from the usual blackboard and chalk, makes his fascination for the discipline return. The operationalization of the proposed pedagogical project was significant, so the knowledge built allowed students to become more aware and critical about the current pandemic scenario, in defense of their health. It is suggested that this theme be treated as a transversal theme in General Secondary Education, in the discipline of Chemistry and Biology. In Chemistry, in the study of organic alcohol compounds, the process of producing gel alcohol is suggested to expand knowledge.

Keywords: Transversality, alcohol gel production, corona virus.
