Factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV

Abstract


There are numerous cases of vertical transmission of HIV, however with the implementation of safety protocols and management of these mothers these cases have decreased, but it is indisputable that there are factors that contribute to the continued infection rates of the disease, highlighting the complexity and severity of the disease in question. The study aims to analyze the factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV. This is an integrative review carried out online through searches in databases such as SCIELO and PubMed, with the descriptors “vertical transmission of HIV”, “and vertical transmission of infectious diseases”. With a return of 144 articles. 10 articles were used after applying the inclusion criteria: articles that reported exclusively on the analysis of factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV, and in addition, documents from the Ministry of Health website were analyzed. The main factors associated with vertical transmission of HIV were failures in prenatal care, the mother’’s non-adherence to antiretroviral treatment immediately, fragility in the care provided and late diagnosis of the disease. Undoubtedly, it is essential to adopt measures aimed at controlling and stagnating the infection quickly and effectively as soon as the pregnancy is discovered. Efficient prenatal care and greater coverage of care for these pregnant women. It is worth mentioning the importance of training and updating these professionals and solving doubts related to the disease, allowing this information to reach these mothers and having an indelible impact on them.
