ABSTRACT

This study aims to investigate the importance and challenges of using information and communication technologies in inclusive education. A narrative literature review was conducted, which descriptively and contextually addressed a research topic, exploring information from relevant studies in a flexible manner, with an emphasis on trends, research gaps, and future perspectives. This approach involved a qualitative data analysis and was employed due to the complexity of the topic at hand. Information and communication technologies (ICT) are playing an increasingly significant role in inclusive education. They offer opportunities to adapt teaching to individual students’ needs, promoting accessibility and active participation. However, the effective use of ICT in inclusive education also presents challenges, such as the need to empower teachers to integrate these technologies into their pedagogical practices. In light of the above, the research highlighted the importance of inclusive schooling and teacher training as essential elements for the success of inclusive education. Specialized resource rooms (SRMs) and ICT play complementary roles in promoting inclusion, provided they are used appropriately and teachers are adequately prepared to make the most of them. The research revealed the ongoing need to develop policies and practices that ensure all children have equal opportunities in education.

Keywords: inclusive education, information and communication technologies, challenges.
