ABSTRACT

Physical Education plays a fundamental role as a transforming agent by developing socio-emotional skills and promoting the citizenship formation of individuals. In this context, the discipline goes beyond teaching movements and physical activities, also seeking the development of socio-emotional skills, such as teamwork, problem solving, empathy and leadership. Through physical activities, games and sports, Physical Education offers opportunities for students to learn to relate to others, deal with challenges, overcome limits and respect differences. These experiences contribute to the development of social skills, such as cooperation, effective communication and building healthy relationships. In addition, Physical Education encourages body awareness and health appreciation, promoting healthy lifestyle habits and encouraging the regular practice of physical activities. This dimension of the discipline is related to personal development and self-care, contributing to the physical and mental well-being of students. With regard to citizenship education, Physical Education provides experiences that involve values such as respect, ethics, solidarity and justice. Through sport and body practices, students have the opportunity to experience situations that require ethical decision-making, respect for rules and appreciation of fair play. In this way, Physical Education is configured as a privileged space for the integral formation of individuals, contributing to the development of essential socio-emotional skills for life in society and for the construction of an active and responsible citizenship. Through its pedagogical practices, the discipline offers tools for students to become transforming agents in their lives and in their communities, preparing them to face challenges, resolve conflicts and engage constructively in society.
