The evolution of children's and adolescents' rights under the prism of the ECA (Statute of the Child and Adolescent).
Rayssa de Souza Rocha
ABSTRACT
Children, in the past, were treated as insignificant beings, “adults” in childish bodies, unworthy of receiving State protection. Thus, they only began to be part of society once they acquired certain skills and were integrated with adults both at work and at leisure. Education occurred mainly through coexistence with adults. At that time, even medieval art did not represent children with their unique characteristics, but portrayed them as smaller-scale versions of adults. Therefore, in this vein, the article focuses on presenting the historical context of the evolution of the rights of children and adolescents and from which moment they began to be protected and protected by the State and how the Child and Adolescent Statute directly impacted them through its guaranteeing norms, since it was the Brazilian legal framework for the full protection of children and youth.
