The pathophysiological imbalances of depression and the repercussions of pharmacological therapy

Depression is a very common affective conflict, affecting mood abruptly. The clinical picture of depression is composed of feelings of sadness and hopelessness, as well as inability to feel pleasure in usual activities, changes in sleep patterns and appetite, loss of vigor and suicidal thoughts. Being the mania constituted by the opposite behavior, that is, enthusiasm, anger, fast thoughts and speech, extreme self-confi dence and decrease of self-criticism. In this context, depression is na aff ection that can negatively interfere with a person’s physical and emotional perspective, and in some cases it can even result in suicide and also cause numerous socioeconomic delays.
