ABSTRACT: Physical education is a school subject that provides social, motor and intellectual development. This study analyzes how the practice of physical activity in the school environment can influence the lives of children and adolescents. This is an applied, observational, cross-sectional study carried out between January and March 2022 in a public school in the city of Capitão de Campos-PI. A descriptive analysis of continuous variables was carried out in the form of absolute and percentage frequencies, using the R® Statstics 3.4.4 program. 24 students aged between 10 and 15 took part in the study. Of these, 87.5% answered that they enjoyed physical activity and 12.5% that they did not. Of the 24 participants, 41.7% did not do any physical education, 41.6% did it 1-2 times a week, 12.5% did it 3 times a week and 4.2% did it 4 times a week. The majority (57%) practiced for 30 minutes. With regard to the sports most frequently practiced, soccer accounted for the highest percentage (57%), followed by games (29%), dance (7%) and handball (7%). The majority of students felt that physical activity improved their quality of sleep (95.8%), their daily disposition (100%) and their interaction with colleagues (95.8%). It was concluded that the number of students who did not practice physical activity was significant. Furthermore, according to the interviewees, sporting activities improve.
